Lean Improves Patient Experience Through Effective Mail Management

Effective Mail Management at ThrockleyPractice sees 75% reduction in mail to GP inboxes and reduces processing time by 80%

Last year Throckley Primary Care in Newcastle upon Tyne received 19,500 letters which took their GPs an average of 40 minutes per day to deal with.

A total of 693 hours a year were being spent just dealing with post. Time the team felt they could utilise more effectively seeing patients and dealing with other clinical duties.

The team at Throckley decided to use a three-day Lean Rapid Process Improvement Workshop (RPIW) to pinpoint issues with the existing process and improve the way the practice dealt with the post.
