Lean Training for GP Practices in North Tyneside

Award-winning CQI toolkit leads to more than £150,000 savings in staffing costs across GP practices in North Tyneside
The North Tyneside CCG Transformation and Change (T&C) team worked with three GP practices within North Tyneside to look at access to GPs as well as staff and patient experiences.
The team worked with three GP practices to train staff in Lean methodologies, collaborative working, the development of new processes, implementation, and testing.
All three practices have improved access to clinicians by freeing up time and improving workflows. The training provided by the T&C team has helped the practices to realise significant benefits:
- In improving the Docman system 36 days of staff time have been saved per year (£90,794 in staffing costs)
- Streamlining the prescriptions process has led to 208 days of staff time being saved (£60,848 in staffing costs)
- By improving patient access to a clinician 30 days of staff time have been saved (£2,121 in staffing costs)
