New Technology Introduced Using Lean Tools Reduces GP Administration

The Informatics and Transforming Community Services teamIntroduction of new technology and new way of working reduces turnaround for GP letters to patients to under 48 hours

The Informatics and Transforming Community Services teams at Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust had found that community staff regularly spent a significant proportion of their time handwriting or typing up documentation into the patient record system.

Assessors regularly spent more time writing up assessments than they did assessing the patient and the team felt that this was an inefficient way for clinicians and assessors to be spending time, time that could be better spent with patients.

The teams decided that in order to accurately measure the baseline processes, implement any changes and then accurately assess them Lean methodologies should be used.
